About

Welcome to The SALT Shaker, the online companion to the SALT program; a student leadership development program of the Brethren Youth In Christ [BYIC] of the Brethren Church, Inc.

*****

The Students Advancing in Leadership Development Program, or SALT, as it is more commonly referred to is a 4 level training program that concentrates on developing student leaders utilizing one-on-one mentoring relationships as well as guided training material.  Each level of training constitutes ten months of involvement with in the program.  SALT is made available to the local Brethren Church through the guidance of the Youth Advisory Council [YAC].

SALT runs from September through June and is open to any eligible student 7th through 12th grade beginning fall of the current year.

The SALT program, while guided by YAC, is facilitated on the local church level by what is termed the SALT Point Person; a pastor, youth leader or other adult volunteer of the local Brethren Church.  This individual is responsible for operating the SALT Program within their local Brethren church.

In order to participate in the SALT program, students must complete and submit an application to the SALT Point Person for consideration and review.  Upon acceptance into the SALT Program, students will be paired with an adult mentor, of the same gender, from the student’s local congregation.

Mentors for the SALT Program must be a willing adult, 23 years of age and older, from within the local Brethren Church.  Mentors are encouraged to only mentor one student per year of the SALT Program, but may be involved with more than one student as agreed upon with the SALT Point Person.

Thank you for your interest in the SALT Program.  For more information please contact the SALT Point Person within your local Brethren Church, or any member of YAC.  Please feel free to further explore this site for more information regarding the SALT Program.
